Chapter 6: Apples

Apple Week was so much fun!

Our letter this week was "W" and here's our poem:
"W says /w/
worm in a wagon
/w/, /w/, /w/."
We started learning about Greater Than and Less Than this week (comparing numbers 1-5),
and we studied all about apples!

On Monday, we made an Anchor Chart with words that describe apples:

On Tuesday, we tasted Red, Yellow, and Green apples and got to pick our favorite!  Mrs. Murphy made a graph with our names on our favorite apples, and we practiced counting each color.

On Wednesday, we learned that there is a star inside of every apple!  Did you know that?  We read a really cute story about a "Red House with No Windows and No Doors with a Star Inside".  As we finished the story Mrs. Murphy cut open the apple and we found an apple!  It was cool!
Then, we got to stamp the apple in paint and print it on our "Apple Star" poem sheet so that we can always remember to see the star inside.

On Thursday, we counted red squares and then glued them down to create our own apple art!

And on Friday, we made "Johnny Appleseed" art......and APPLESAUCE!!!
(The art said "I am ____ Appleseed.")

This applesauce was delicious!
Here's the recipe:
Put 12 apples peeled and chopped into a crockpot with 1/2 cup of water.  Cook on High for 3 hours.  Mash with potato masher, add 1 tsp (plus some) of cinnamon and 1/2 cup of sugar.  Stir.  Cook 2 more hours.  Let cool.  Enjoy!

Kindergarten Funnies:

TW: "I ate maronis for dinner." (bologna? macaroni? mixed?!)

Me: "Someone smells extra sweet today, who is it?"
TW: "Me!  It's my momma's berfume."  (perfume)

TW: "Mrs. Murphy, I got 2 worms in my book bag!  You wanna see?"
(thankfully they were gummy worms!)

KJ: "Mrs. Henson, I got some burger chips for my snack."
Mrs. Henson: "What are burger chips?  Let me see."
Bugle Chips.....not burger chips.

TW: "Mrs. Murphy, he's scrippy scrappy."  (scribble scrabble)

KH: "You saw what I drawed you, Mrs. Murphy?"

TW: "Y'all better be quiet or Mrs. Murphy is gonna eat y'all applesauce up..."

TW: "Mr. Murphy will be so proud of you!"
Me: "He will?  Why?"
TW: "Cause you made that applesauce.  And you is a good cook, Mrs. Murphy!"

That's all for this week, folks!
Please continue to pray for me, my assistant, and all of my sweet kiddos daily.
Believe me, they are much needed and appreciated.

Until next week,
XOXO
